The Value of Family Financial Planning

Mike, Kayla and I want to alert you to our upcoming Lunch and Learn session, and this one will be special. On Thursday March 26th at 11:45 AM we will host our next Lunch and Learn at Café Alley. The topic that day is “The Value of Family Financial Planning” or how to talk to the next generation about money.

We have heard many clients and friends complain that younger generations just do not appreciate the efforts required to earn a living, nor understand the basic demands on those earnings. Our conversations that day will focus on how to talk to your kids or grandkids about money – earning, spending and saving it. We are fortunate to have as our presenters three educators from East Central University, all of whom are experienced in business before their current roles in academia; and all are parents experienced in dealing with kids and cash.

Wendell Godwin, Dean of the School of Business, came back to ECU after 26 years in private enterprise, working for two Fortune 1000 companies in the US and internationally. Joe Dougherty is a CPA, and CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst), with years of experience in both public accounting and investment analysis before answering the sirens call to positively influence the lives of young people.

Stacey Bolin was named to the USA Today All-American Academic Team while an undergrad at ECU. She earned her MBA at OU and then worked in agri-businesses for years, even starting a business venture which she sold before returning to ECU in 2011. ECU annually sponsors and hosts the Oklahoma Business Week – a week long summer camp for high school students to experience the rigors of the business life-cycle, from formation to operation and reporting. The program has been recognized nationally as one of the best continuing education programs in the nation. All three presenters participate in the camp and will share their excitement for the student’s hands-on experiences. This may be an event parents or grandparents should consider as important for a family member’s growth in understanding money matters. We hope you can set aside 75 minutes and join us on March 26th to gain from the experience of these three dynamic speakers who have dealt with the difficult issues of family finances. Kayla will be mailing invitations in a week so be sure to notify her if you can attend.
